The History of the T-Shirt

Nowadays we all love T-shirts, their light, comfortable style easy to wear with, well, anything. But when did we actually adopt the T-Shirt as a fashion classic? Well.. we've delved deep to find some interesting facts about the 'T-Shirt' so named because of it's 'T' shape.

The T-shirt was first issued to the U.S. Navy sometime around the Spanish American War, and were meant to be used as a form of underwear, it soon became standard issue to new recruits. By the 1920s "T-shirt" became an official American-English word in the Merriam-Webster's dictionary.

19 years later, the first printed promotional T-shirt came along, being used to promote the hit film, 'The Wizard of Oz'.

In the 1980s it became very popular to put slogans on T-shirts.. with little or no meaning, creating bold statements like 'Frankie say WAR hide yourself'. People to-date are still putting slogans on T-shirts, however it has become immensely common and we are firm believers of not putting slogans on T-shirts.
Booyah!
