What does MDMA feel like and why you SHOULDN'T take it...*TW*

*TW* MDMA or 'MethyleneDioxyMethAmphetamine' commonly known as ecstasy is a psychoactive drug primarily used as a recreational drug by the younger generation and has become increasingly popular in recent years.

I have had a personal experience with MDMA when I was 16 years old (I know, very silly indeed, but not uncommon). I attended a festival with some friends and thought it would be a good idea, or exciting to take some. Oh, how wrong I was. As many of you know, this would later become the catalyst to my anxiety and leave me housebound for 3 years.

Let's take a step back, though, what exactly is MDMA? Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is a psychoactive drug with the desired effects of Empathy, Euphoria and heightened sensations, including an increase in confidence. This is the explanation of why some young people take it, if you tend to suffer from social anxiety, or are a bit of an introvert, it may seem desirable because it increases confidence. Do not be enticed, it creates a false sense of confidence, remember this is a psychoactive drug which changes brain function.

For someone who suffers from anxiety or social anxiety, this is probably the worst drug you can take. If you suffer from a mental illness, the chemicals in your brain may already be slightly unstable, so the last thing you should ever dream of taking is a drug which changes the chemicals in your brain.

I fear a lot of young people today are being tricked into thinking this is curing or helping with their anxiety when it's not. Not only that, nowadays nobody actually knows what's in the substance.

It can be a very difficult subject to touch on, as I don't know everyone's circumstances. However, there are ways of getting better, if CBT Therapy doesn't work for you, maybe try seeing a Psychiatrist. Illicit drugs are never the way forward and often make things worse, or even cause death.
