What is Generalised Anxiety Disorder? (GAD)

Hello, everyone!

It is wonderful that I have been given the opportunity to do a guest post for Maison de Choup, especially as I am a mental health blogger with personal experiences!

I am currently an 18-year old who is studying her A-Levels. I suffer from generalised anxiety, as well as aspects of social anxiety and depression. Suffering from both anxiety and depression makes day to day life much more of a difficult task. I have to cope with a large amount of fear about the smallest of things or nothing at all, whilst also trying to battle my mind which is the cause of my anxiety and the sadness that trails behind it.

Generalised anxiety is a type of anxiety disorder which makes the individual suffer from extreme worry nearly every day. Now as you can probably imagine, this is extremely horrendous disorder to live with as it affects all aspects of your life and it can be difficult for those around you to understand. Stigma is also a difficult thing to face when you suffer from a mental health issue, especially if it is from those close to you. Not only have I had to see stigma from loved ones, but also the NHS. It has only been recently that people have realised how much I am struggling, and I am now receiving proper help and support. I help to reduce stigma for those suffering with a range of mental health issues by not only blogging about mental health, but also keeping people up to date on my journey through social media and being involved in a range of projects/ charities which help give support to people/ reduce the stigma attached to mental health.

It is so important that people talk openly about mental health and people listen; giving respect and help when needed.

Please know that you are never alone, even in your darkest of days. If you are struggling, ask for help and do not stop asking until you receive it. 1 in 4 of us struggle with at least one mental health issue and the sooner that people realise how important our mental health is, the better.

If you would like to keep up to date with my blog, you can find it at https://rhiannaelizabethblog.wordpress.com/

Hope you're all well and please feel free to contact me at any point!

Much love,

Rhi. Xx
